Hello Everyone,

I just bought a 2015 Infiniti QX80 recently and have been having navigation issues. I wanted to know who was the Navigation supplier for my QX80. The issue is the the screen will flicker after I set a destination, it is not a big deal but it is very annoying to see the screen flicker. I paid a lot of money for this vehicle and find it dissatisfying to have this problem. Any kind of help will be great.

Regards

I'm not sure who the navigation supplier is but I would assume that your manufacturer warranty is still in effect, given it is a 2015. You should take it to your local Infiniti dealer and have them look at it. I've never had this issue on either of my QX56/QX80.

QX80AusTex, thanks for the quick reply. I have tried calling the customer service at the dealer, and they say that it is normal. I have fought with them to remove and replace the unit, but they are not budging. This is why I am asking if anyone knows who the Navigation supplier is, so I can call/email/smoke signal them if they can help me. It is very frustrating...

Alpha, if the dealer is not helping, you should give Infiniti Consumer Affairs a call at 800-662-6200 to open a case and see if they will work with you and the dealer.

I don't know who makes the navigation unit hardware, but NAVTEQ supplied the mapping software, which might now be branded under HERE, since both are owned by Nokia now.

I also doubt that the navigation manufacturer would be responsive to you on this issue. They likely would say that while they supply the hardware, Nissan/Infiniti installs it in their vehicle and they are responsible for warranty service. It sounds like you haven't taken it to the dealer, only spoken with them on the phone. I would definitely make an appointment to bring it in for them to look at it. There's no way that they could possibly conclude it's normal without actually seeing the issue that you're having.

Keep us updated on what happens.

One of the reasons why I like google maps on my phone, almost no issues and google being a massive authority in the connected world, you can imagine how refined things are and how quickly issues are dealt with.

Only downside is some data plans can be a lot. But I heard there might be data plans for cars as we step into the autonomous age.

This topic is common across different car forums. Here is another solution suggested a couple days ago by someone who didn't want to pay the dealer to update their Nav system, (in that particular case $350):
1. Get a nice 8 inch android tablet. Does not need to be expensive. Phone these days are 6 inch which can work as well.
2. Download Here Maps by Nokia. The best part about here maps is its offline maps so it does not need data. All it needs is GPS signal.
2. Voila, you are good to go. BTW the map has location for almost every place you can possible think of taking your car to.

A tablet will be the best way to go, these days its more of an investment than anything else since there's just so much you can do which depending on what you can do, you can make your money back on it instantly.

I prefer iPads.

You can try taking it to a different dealer, it's not uncommon for people having to get a 2nd and even 3rd opinion. Remember at the end of the day not everyone is going to give you the same treatment, or even have the same understanding of how these issues can be detected, some will want to rush you out of the dealership without doing some real diagnosis.

Just make sure the other dealer you get a 2nd opinion from has a good reputation, and you can more than likely do some searching online for that.

I've not noticed the flicker on my Navigation system.

I picked up my 2016 QX80 Limited in January and so far has been fine. No complaints and counting on many more miles and years of service.

Local Infiniti service by me has been fantastic over the years ... no complaints. It was that dealership and this vehicle that stole me away from the 2016 Escalade and Land Rover I was originally considering.

I'm on my second QX56/QX80. First a 2013 and now a 2016. Never experienced any navigation issues and in 60,000 miles of ownership of my 2013, never had any service done other than routine maintenance.
