for anyone interested, TFLCar put the QX80 through a towing test and even compared it to the 2015 Yukon XL and 2015 Lincoln Navigator. Great towing test.
Good to know what the QX80 is capable of with real-world examples.

Yes.
Fortunately its powertrain setup greatly supports how well it does in test like these for the type of SUV it is.

5.6L V8 with 400 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm and 413 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm. The 7-speed automatic transmission handles the shifting, but the final drive ratio is an unusually high 2.93. The transmission compensates for this with an extra low 4.88 first and 3.17 second gear ratios.
I'm just concerned what towing cap will be like on the next generation model if the V8 gets downgraded to a 6

There's no way it will just be a 6 cylinder engine, even a big displacement 6 won't do the job.
It'll have to be a big displacement 6... turbocharged.
supercharged would be great for the linear power especially with a vehicle as big as this but most if not all car makers seem to be going turbo.
