What do you expect out of the next generation of QX80s?

What sort of improvements? I think gas mileage should be a primary concern.

Updated interior and exterior.

First thing that came to mind for me was also gas mileage. If the mpg isn't good enough I will just go or something smaller. I also wish that it looked a tad less boxy.

Infiniti has been doing fairly well recently though, so I am confident that the QX80 will make substantial improvements over its previous emanation.
Agreed. Maybe hybrid technology? I think the interior needs to be updated to match the new style of Infiniti interiors. And of course the exterior styling. Its in need of an update. As for features and safety. I don't expect any less from this top model. It should have all the new safety and comfort features in the market.
Its not like the QX80 is doing poorly at the moment, or that it is in desperate need of anything, but to keep up with what other brands are doing and with what people want updates to the exterior styling and efficiency are a must. Making it into a hybrid would be great, though I'm sure it wouldn't have much range given how heavy it is.

Eventually it will have to go hybrid, it's competition, the Escalade, is also going Hybrid. There's nothing better to get these boats from a stand still to the flow of traffic than with electric motors. The weight of these SUV's suck the life out of their engines when going from a stop.

good point
having great amounts of torque instantly and not when you rear 3k RPM and higher is a big plus
improvements, i think the better question is do we even get a future QX80. There are very few large SUVs like the QX80, in the luxury realm the only two that stick out are the Cadillac Escalade and the Lincoln Navigator and the sales of those are dwindling quickly. Very few body on frame SUVs exist anymore, QX80 is based on the Nissan Titan full size pickup truck. If Infiniti does decide to keep QX80 around its likely it gets swapped to a friendlier unibody setup.

Unibody has the advantages of weight saving as well as allowing the engineers more freedom with design. the RWD truck frames limit interior space and layout...

We'll see.

I think that automakers make a killing on the mark-up on these huge SUVs. For this reason it is not so much about how many of them are sold because even if they sell a small amount, they still make a pretty good profit.
when it comes to a premium flagship SUV like the QX80 I doubt they will downsize it as the type of person that can afford them doesn't usually worry much about fuel economy. But eventually improving MPG numbers will be the focus here, it's why I think a Hybrid QX80 will happen in time.

Yeah It would take more than one electric motor to help guide this heavy car up to speed. I would just think maybe an updated interior would do and some refreshments on the exterior.

i always thought the interior was nice, i doubt they will do much, they're better off waiting to make big changes on the next generation model

2013 QX56 interior

The margins is a familiar argument and one ive used myself, but it still doesnt make sense for makers to continue with these large flagship SUVs. It made sense during the 90s and early 2000s when SUVs were the it thing, but aside from this 10-15 years the auto industry has never had flagship SUVs. QX80 will be killed along with Armada. Margins mean absolutely nothing if people cant afford the cost of ownership. With $3-4/gallon in the states and some places in Canada at $5/gallon if you do the math folks just cant afford to take the QX80 to the grocery store.

But alas it wont be killed yet, heres what the new QX80 will be, a rebadged Nissan Patrol from the international market...
