Infiniti QX80 vs Mercedes GL vs Range Rover vs Lexus LX 570

So on the forum I've seen the QX80 compared to Navigators and Suburbans but nothing from the traditional superpowers of luxury. BMW, Audi and Acura don't compete in this segment leaving the large SUVS up to Infiniti, Mercedes Benz, Land Rover and Lexus.

Infiniti QX80
MSRP: $61,350
Overall Length: 208.3 in (5290.82 mm)

Mercedes GL
MSRP: $63,000 (Diesel) $64,550 (Gasoline)
Overall Length: 201.6 in (5120.64 mm)

Range Rover
MSRP: $83,545
Overall Length: 196.8 in (4998.72 mm)

Lexus LX 570
MSRP: $81,780
Overall Length: 197.0 in (5,005 mm)

So QX80 is the biggest and the cheapest, I believe that's the American dream, more for less...

I didn't think that the Lexus and the Range Rover would be that much more expensive! What is that extra money getting you? I can't see these vehicles giving much more in terms of luxury, options, or features than the Mercedes-Benz GL. Even Infiniti usually has a lot of features in their vehicles. It's not like Infinitis have less luxury features than these other brands usually.

So what is the big difference?
I've got some sales numbers for QX80, GL, Range and LX

August 2013 Sales (USA)

QX80: 1225
GL: 2722
Range: 972
LX: 335

2013 YTD Sales (USA)

QX80: 7972
GL: 19,833
Range: 7712
LX: 2643

GL is clearly running away with it, maybe its the diesel option that gets people all uppity. The lexus rightly suffers, thats an $80,000 toyota...

geez the range rover and lexus are pricey cars. I understand the Range Rover but what makes the Lexus LX570 demand almost 20k ontop?
the lexus doesn't have as much of a wow factor as the rest, but it's expensive.
i much rather have the QX80 or Range Rover for both the wow factor and features.
I'd say the QX sales numbers are impressive.

The GL is a nice car. It's sales are definitely blowing away the competition though.

Good info. Learn something new everyday.

Impressive numbers for sure. But after seeing so many of them on the road im not shocked. The amount of QX80's I see on the road far outweigh the amount of Lexus GX and LX models.

Infiniti is definitely doing something right
I wonder how much of those GL sales are diesel. Im curious why the GL is such a good selling car.
how about the interior? lets compare the interior? maybe that will show us why the GL is such a better selling car or the GX demands such a high price.

It's typical mercedes, nothing out of the ordinary. If anything it looks a bit outdated.

typical mercedes is still better than most other interiors at their best :)

Not the Range... I'd take a Range Rover interior any day of the week, if only the vehicles were reliable. Range Seats in a QX80 body ;)
These are the engines that come in each vehicle. Other engines are available, but these are the engines AutoGuide recommends, except for the Range Rover which I pulled from the Range Rover website.

Infiniti QX80
5.6-liter V8
400 HP
413 lb-ft of torque
14/20/16 mpg

Mercedes-Benz GL350 BlueTEC
3.0-liter V6
240 HP
455 lb-ft of torque
19/26/22 mpg

Lexus LX 570
5.7-liter V8
383 HP
403 lb-ft of torque
12/17/14 mpg

Range Rover
Supercharged 3.0-liter V6
340 HP
332 lb-ft of torque
16/22/18 mpg

(Also comes with a 510 HP supercharged V8 that may be more along the lines of the price posted earlier in the thread)

I wonder if Infiniti will ever consider downgrading to a high output twin turbo V6 like Ford's V6 Ecoboost engine, good replacement for the V8
The QX80 makes the most power :D
the V8 in it produces 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, which is power that can be easily made with a twin turbo V6 and even electric motors at the wheels, if Infiniti wants to go that route. That would boost range like crazy.

v6 TTs are not so good for towing. The turbos get too hot, just ask any Ecoboost F150 owner ;) same goes for hybs
The V6's have much better fuel economy. I think it makes sense to develop better V6s instead of continuing with making V8s. As long as these big vehicles have the torque, it should matter quite so much how much horsepower they produce.
