Well finally pulled the trigger as I eluded to in a number of posts and bought this beast.

2016 Imperial Black and Truffle Interior ... 22" black chrome wheels and trim. Attached picture of vehicle sitting in showroom (7 miles on odometer) waiting for me to finish paperwork and drive off ... little did I know into a record blizzard on the east coast.

One work of caution ... the Imperial Black has a metal flake while the Obsidian black does not. In most conditions it looks black; except in full sun where it picks up a cranberry hue ... the dealer mentioned it but I never really appreciated how much until I got the vehicle home on a sunny day.

I was looking at an Escalade, since I was a former owner until last week. Just happened to stop in dealer and saw a Hermosa Blue QX80 and it caught my attention. So much so I decided to test drive a limited version in obsidian black.

The inside is outstanding; almost Bentley like and now have 3 comments in one week on the side profile having a Maserati resemblance ... must be the vents. And coincidentally I own a Maserati and never thought that until someone brought to my attention.

The ride was smooth and responsive; sound system is great and very comfortable seating for me at 6'3". Brakes seem fine.

Even though this has a slightly dated architecture it is pretty well equipped and proven so expect I will not go through the "Year one" testing for the franchise. I just did that for my Maserati which was first year of new model ... never let me down ... just numerous updates as they learned.

The aggressiveness of front end is growing on me ... I really liked the front end of the Escalade. This QX80 vehicle has a more aggressive 4 WD system than the Escalade should I ever off-road I also noted there was less body roll in the curves with this than the Escalade.

This vehicle is BIG ... a little bit bigger than my Escalade, but smaller than the extended version. I miss my rear glass window that opens instead of opening the monstrous rear door which needs plenty of clearance.

After first fill-up hit 10 mpg ... figure this is still braking in by the smell when I park it in the garage.

All in all very happy so far ... added the 8 year / 100K extended warranty due to all the electronics. I thought the extended warranty was a little steep, but saw after the fact some on-line dealers will undersell local dealers who claim they are selling warranty at their cost.

Been hearing the same thing from those once interested in the Escalade and the like, as a result of that i've been seeing a growing amount of QX80's on the road, especially new ones. Before now they were hard to come by.

BUT with how the new Escalade looks (looks are big thing to me) i'm sort of leaning towards it.

I was torn myself and considering Range Rover as another alternate. The Escalade (Platinum) and QX80 (Limited) are two different cars in my opinion. The Escalade nicely dressed draws a different type of attention and stares, while the QX80 doesn't right away. QX80 is a little more subdued but aggressive looking. I've received lots of positive comments, (some polite, I'm sure), about the vehicle, from folks who don't particularly care for the Escalade and some that just bought a 2015 and wanted to compare.

Other than some concerns on Escalade quality, which you always see on these forums; the QX80 limited interior with open pore wood and brushed aluminum is what ultimately swayed me.

I do think the Range Rover offered a nice blend of subdued sportiness and luxury with more off road / bad weather capabilities ....if they didn't want to push full sticker price ... I might have more strongly considered.

I'm sure you'll be satisfied with either choice.
