I recently purchased a new 2017 QX80, AWD. Let me start by saying I love it. It's a big truck, terrible gas mileage, but I knew that going in. However, I do have one small issue I can't seem to get worked out.

Imagine you are backing out of your garage, level grade, in reverse and making a hard right hand turn Prior to bringing the wheels back to center, you stop, transition from reverse to drive, and ease into the gas, while slowly transitioning from hard left to hard right. Here is where the problem surfaces. My truck, depending on how gentle you are with this sequence, will pick up a shuttering in the steering wheel that can be felt in the seat and the front passenger seat. Almost as if the power steering is struggling to get the wheels to turn in the in the opposite direction. A very noticeable(maybe 400rpm) drop also occurs in the engine also.

I have driven all sorts of trucks and SUVs over the years and this reminds me of my 2005 Chevy 2500HD with 38" mud kings when it's low of power steering fluid and I am trying to turn with the front wheels in a ditch or something. Just very uncomfortable. It's possible I am being too picky, but this is a 75k truck with 800 miles on it.

Any guidance, example, additional clarity, wisdom, breadcrumbs are appreciated.

So you know, I took it in, Infinfiti shop foreman drove it with me and said, "Oh yeah, that's not right" kept it for two weeks, replaced the rack and pinion, power steering, anything related to power steering($8000+ worth), I get it back and it's still doing it, and now they say it's normal. Initially said they found metal flakes in the power steering fluid.

Mine (2016 QX80 AWD) does a similar thing (though maybe not to the same extent). Dealer stated it's normal.


I too wasn't all that re-assured, but as long as the warranty is in force I won't worry too much about it.
